Stances Reminder
Use the TOE RULES (Your back should be straight when determining whether or not you’re doing it right)
Front Stance:
- 80% of weight on front foot, 20% on back foot
- If you made your back foot horizontally in line with your front, your feet should be two shoulder lengths apart. (Basically a middle stance)
- Front leg should be bent enough that, if your back is straight, you cannot see your front toes. Back leg should be straight
- All 10 toes should be pointing toward your target.
Middle Stance
- 50% of weight on each foot
- Both of your feet should be in a horizontal line
- Both legs should be bent enough that, if your back is straight, you cannot see your toes
- All 10 toes should be pointing the same direction.
- 2 Shoulder widths between your heels.
Back Stance
- 70% of weight on back foot, 30% on front foot
- The distance between your legs should be your shoulder width
- If your left leg is in front, those toes should be pointing towards your target. Your overall leg formation should be an L. The top of the L is your left foot and the bottom is your right. If your right foot is in front, then it would be a backwards L.
- You back leg should be bent enough that you cannot see your back toes. Your front leg should be bent enough that you can barely see your front toes
Cat Stance
- 90% of weight on back foot, 10% on front
- Start off with your heels touching, making an L or a backwards L. The distance between your front foot and back foot is if you lift your front heel off the ground like a cat.
- If your left leg is in front, those toes should be pointing towards your target. Your overall leg formation should be an L. The top of the L is your left foot and the bottom is your right. If your right foot is in front, then it would be a backwards L.
- Your front toes should be absolutely and completely covered by your knee.
